FAQ

Is it natural?
It’s as natural as sleep, as natural as day dreaming and natural as learning new things without having to even try. It’s as natural as imagining things and making those thoughts even better, until they simply become behaviour.

It’s as natural as learning useful things and simply unlearning less useful ones.

No chemicals, no drugs, no appliances or equipment, no religion, crystals or hugging trees (tho I like trees)

Just you, your mind and positive intentions.

Is it safe?
Completely safe. There has never ever been a case of any of these techniques when used ethically by trained practitioners doing any harm.

Remember within you is a strong self preservation that will always keep you safe, so you cannot do anything you truly don’t want to do.

Will I or can I be made to do things I don’t want to do?
Simply no.

You have a personal “ecology” or a personal safety system that will stop you doing things you really don’t want to do.

Plus from my professional point of view:

1 I work within my training in a clinical context and have no interest in showmanship.

2 I only want what’s best for your improving life. It would give me great satisfaction to see someone improve the quality of their life rather than have them cluck like a chicken for the fun of others.

Think about it. people who willingly take part in “hypnosis shows” to cluck like chickens, eat raw onions like apples and act out all manner of odd behaviours on stage in “hypnosis shows” are usually:

  • People who want to be up there….. If they didn’t they wouldn’t go.
  • They have also been carefully chosen by the “Hypnotist” and their assistance to be highly willing to act out the scenario.
  • They are likely to be under the influence of alcohol which makes you more let’s say impressionable, and this is a complete no no for clinical work
  • Its highly likely as well they have been prepared by the stage hypnotists assistant before hand

How Long are the session?
Approximately 60 to 90 minutes depending on what work is being carried out and the stage we are at within the session. I work with people, not stop watches.

How many sessions will I need?
This is a tricky one to specify because each person and goal is different.

People can have quite realistic and simple goals that can be achieved with 1 to 3 sessions.

Other people might have a more complex goal with different facets that might each need attention to progress so could need 4 to 8 sessions.

Or some people might enjoy longer term coaching in certain skills.

The most important session is the first one were we would carefully identify what you’d like to achieve and then how we’d do it.

Whats the difference between these forms of personal development and change work:

Counselling
Is a non judgemental rational converstation between two people, structured in a way to think about resolutions to problems. Through a trusted relationship a process of exploration can happen in a safe environment. This type of work is ideal for non serious emotional issues and with often long periods of interaction can result in a conscious rational understanding of what why things are as they are and how to change that.

Psyco-Therapy
A wide range of techniques and schools come under the banner of Psycotherapy. It is a general term for the treatment of psychological disorders and some mental illness. A trained psycotherapist will help the clients tackle a problem, emotional illness or source of stress with a wide range of techniques and approaches. Through a trusted relationship and open conversation and using psycotherpeuatic techniques firstly understanding about the problem is reached which can take many sessions and then change work can happen with various methods of intervention to address how the client behaves and feels now the issue is openly understood.

Psyco-Analysis
The main aim of Psyco- Analysis is to release the repressed emotions and experiences from the mind. To make the unconscious conscious gives the client a cathartic experience to resolve their problems and move on

They hopefully, though conscious discussion discover the unconscious problems. Both involve open interaction and discussion of past events ie disclosure of content.

They are talking therapies which can take many sessions to isolate the problem and begin restorative work…
Hypnotherapy is often much faster. It taps into the unconscious 90% of your mind, to either make the changes you need deep down, or shed light on the issue you wish to work through.

Through creative exploration of the unconscious with dynamic and personalized techniques, amazing long lasting speed of change can happen with Hypnotherapy.

NLP is very outcome focused. Once you have identified what the goal is the aim is to move you there. Thus leaving behind old outdated stratagies and create more resourceful updated behaviours.

In short…. Lets do something about it rather than talk about it.

What does “Content Free” Mean?
If a person has had a traumatic event then sometimes talking about it an be traumatic in its self.

Some techniques can be done without revealing what the major series of events is.

So without sharing the content of what happened certain processes can quickly eleviate the effect they have had on a person.

Have I ever used Hypno Therapy or NLP
Yes, so I know it works really well, hence why I’ve spent huge amounts of time and effort training and qualifying in it.

Am I supervised?
All professional therapists, change practitioners are ethically and professionally required to have professional supervision to ensure they themselves are operating well and in good practice.

I also subscribe to the National Occupational Standards set out by the National Hypno Therapy Council.

Does it work on everyone?
I’m not aware of anything in this world that is guaranteed to work on everyone therapeutically!.

However Hypnotherapy NLP EFT and EMDR are recognized as powerful methods to effect positive change for large numbers of people.

Just like going to the Gym the more focus, practice and effort you put in the better your results will be. After all its you that makes the changes with ethical guidance and help.

What does it feel like?
Hypno therapy can be a different experience for different people and of course the type of work undertaken. It can feel like anything from a calm informal talk where your hearing everything and remembering most of it, to a very deep relaxed state where time seems to stand still and of course  everything in between.

NLP can be an interesting chat with a few mental games to play then afterward often a kapow moment.

EFT can at first, feel a little self conscious due to the self tapping on the bodies meridians and spoken affirmations, but moments after things usually feel much better and very much worth while.

EMDR when done visually kinesthetically or audibly often feels disorientating. I’d suggest that’s to be expected if your reprocessing emotional events psychotherapeutically.

In all the above treatments, you are in charge. No one has power over you. Choice always exists.

Will I wake up?
Absolutely.

Will I remember everything?
Sometimes yes and sometimes no it depends on how deeply into relaxation you go and the type of work we are doing.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, if they choose to. Just like you can’t be forced to fall asleep you can’t be forced into hypnosis. Basically hypnosis is self hypnosis and often people let them selves go further each session.

Do you treat children?
I am happy to work with 16 years and above. Throughout the session a parent should accompany them.

What if I can’t relax?

What if you can? At some point in there lives everybody relaxed….

Can I bring someone with me?
Absolutely! What ever makes you feel comfortable. All I ask is they sit quietly. Assistance dogs are welcome with prior arrangment.

How Can I prepare?
I’d suggest keeping off the caffeine for that day. Maybe bring a comfortable blanket to drape over you as you may cool down a bit like when we go to sleep. Leave yourself a little time to gather your thoughts and feelings after the appointment before trying to dash off somewhere. Some people can feel rather sleepy or tired for a few moments.
